Assignment #13

1. Read the articles handed out in class: Constructivist Learning and Teaching and (Mis?)Constructing Constructivism. Be prepared to discuss what you (a) understand about constructivism and (b) felt were important points raised in the articles that helped you develop a better understanding of constructivism as well as (c) questions that remain regarding constructivism and its implications for teaching mathematics.

2. Read Chapter 4 in Every Minute Counts. There is a lot of good advice and strategies offered in this chapter and I think you will find some of it helpful now.

3. Read the handout on Cooperative Learning from the Core-Plus implementation guide.

4. Complete Unit 3 Lesson 1, Investigation 2, from the Core-plus curriculum. Specifically, read the introduction and questions 1 and 2, and complete 3 – 6. Try to connect the points that are discussed in the reading in (3) and consider your role as a teacher and how they would specifically appear when completing this lesson in the classroom.
