Assignment #1
1. If you
haven’t already, please read Bill MacCallum’s ICME paper that I
shared previously.
2. If you
haven’t already, go to
https://openupresources.org/ and create an
account so you can access the materials for our work with Mrs.
MaVittie and Ms. Littles.
3. Once you have
your open up resources account we’ll read a few sections of the
course overview found under the course guide heading on the Grade
7 unit page. (Link below, but I’m sure you’ll need to be logged in
to access it) Please read the scope and sequence and Unit 1 Scale
drawings sections. Then skip down to the About these Materials
section (link on left side of webpage or scroll way down) This is
the main focus of our reading. The many pages that follow detail
aspects of the design, the structure of the lessons, the routines
that are built in to the lessons, the ways we can assess student
learning, etc. Read all the sections from About these Materials up
to the ELL section.
4. In
preparation for next week:
A.
Please complete the finding area task (color handout) that you
were given in class. Next, find the 5x5 dot grid paper (or print
attached file) and complete task 2.1a (also attached but you have
a copy).
B.
Complete the student tasks for Grade 7, Unit 1, lesson 1. The are
attached and you will get hard copies today. This is what students
will eventually be working on.
5. Read the
Standards for Mathematical Practice (attached) and view the
accompanying powerpoint (attached) that elaborates on those.
6. Our next
assignment will include some reading in Groth’s text so please
make sure you’ve ordered that or picked it up at the bookstore.
