Admission Prerequisites: 1. Completion of at least 18 semester hours beyond calculus, including one semester of linear algebra or abstract algebra, a semester of geometry, and at least one semester of analysis, discrete mathematics, calculus based probability, or calculus based statistics. 2. An average of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0 in all undergraduate mathematics courses. 3. Acceptance as a graduate student by the chairperson of the faculty of the Mathematics Department and the dean of graduate studies. 4. A limited deficiency in any of the above may be removed while pursuing graduate study with a written statement from the chairperson of the Mathematics Department. A copy of this statement will be filed in the Mathematics Department Office and the Graduate Office. Note: A Certificate of Qualification or Initial Certification is necessary if this degree is to be used to seek Professional Certification. Program Requirements: The student must complete at least 30 semester hours of course work from the following three categories. Unrestricted electives are not permitted. A minimum of 15 hours must be completed at the (600 or 700) gradute level. Mathematics Education..........................................6-9 The student must complete at least six semester hours of graduate mathematics education courses selected by advisement from the following list. Up to six semester hours of electives pertaining to the professional development of a teacher may be chosen with prior approval of the student's adviser or the department chairperson.
