Description

Your project is to design lessons for five days of instruction (testing not included) that teaches some aspect of middle / secondary mathematics (6th grade and up) using:

·      Student-centered, inquiry-based exploration;

·      that involves the use of technology and/or manipulatives for at least three of    the lessons;

·      and is centered around a theme or topic.

NOTE: The 5 days need not be consecutive. That is, the 5 lessons might occur over 10 days with some other lessons in-between.

 

 

Grades

  • Your grade will be based on the quality with which you implement the above criteria in your project and
  • your attendance at the workshops. You grade will remain an N if the 13 hours are not completed.

Format

  • Your project will be a single word file, including all worksheets and figures, in Microsoft Word format. It can be handed in on disk or preferably as a mail attachment sent to itproj@math.buffalostate.edu. 

    In this one file, your project should include the following items:

1.   Title page that includes title of the unit, course/grade level, time span, and tools (technology & manipulatives) used. 

2.   A list of overall objectives for the unit. Indicate which NCTM and New York State Standards (content and process) are addressed in the unit. Note: Please use full text of the objective (i.e., not G.G.33).

3.   A description of resources you used for this unit. For journal articles, give title of journal along with date or volume number, title of article, author, and pages. For textbooks, give publisher, title or book, author, chapter and pages used, and copyright date. For internet resources, give URL, title, author.

4.   A description of materials and equipment needed. If you use a textbook for assignments, indicate the series used.

5.   A one page overview of the entire unit with a brief description of what will be done each day. This should be in outline or chart format.

   Also, attach any GSP or Fathom files that your lessons incorporate.

Daily lesson plans need to include:

(a)     objectives

(b)    outline of the activities with instructions for the teacher.

(c)     student handouts (including supporting screenshots or graphics that assist the student in completion of tasks), transparencies (optional), and homework (if not from textbook)

(d)    answer key
